Charges dropped against former UNC tutor Jennifer Wiley Thompson

Charges were just dropped against Jennifer Wiley Thompson, formerly Jennifer Wiley. She made her first appearance in an Orange County courtroom with her husband in October 2013.

Exactly one year after Jennifer Wiley Thompson was indicted by a grand jury on four counts of athlete agent inducement, Orange County District Attorney Jim Woodall has dropped all charges against the former UNC tutor.

Thompson first came under fire for her relationship with former UNC football player Greg Little. Thompson encouraged Little to enter into a contract with athlete agent Terry Watson of the Watson Sports Agency, according to the October 2013 indictment.

Watson was later charged with 13 counts of athlete-agent inducement and one count of felony obstruction of justice.

After Thompson participated in the independent investigation being conducted by former federal prosecutor Kenneth Wainstein, Woodall dropped the charges at 4:34 p.m. Wednesday, said Elliot Abrams, Thompson’s attorney.

“He has not said he’s dismissing it because he determined that she didn’t commit a crime, he dismissed it because she talked to him,” Abrams said in an interview Thursday. “But it’s our complete and total belief that there just isn’t evidence of her committing any crime.”

When Thompson was first indicted for athlete agent inducement, her charges were believe to be the first of their kind in the country, Abrams said at the time.

“She was not an agent, she wasn’t a runner for an agent, she was just a college student who was friends with athletes," Abrams said Thursday. "And there’s not evidence of any crime that she committed.”

Woodall did not immediately return calls requesting comment.
